The trip package leads watercraft crusaders on a day tour down both channels of the Ottawa River, strapped into 14-foot self-bailing rafts with provided helmets, life jackets, wet suits ($15 for wet suit rental after June 15), otter-shaped flotation devices, and other safety equipment. A morning traverse plunges rafts down the five-metre Garvin’s Chute waterfall, through the wedding-nightmare overtones of Iron Ring, and across the undulating waves of Lower Ostrom before briefly pausing for an included riverside lunch.
Shuttle vehicles pack up equipment and rafters for a trip back to the put, before commencing the afternoon descent down the Main Channel’s churning waves (up to 14 ft.). Boat-bound bruisers run the watery gauntlet through Butcher’s Knife and Coliseum, which funnel the majority of the river’s volume. After surviving the slings of nature’s occasional ill temper, guests unwind with complimentary après-raft beer, soft drinks, and a photo-video presentation. Guests warm up and cool down from wrestling rapids at Esprit’s base camp, spending before and after nights in the calm company of Canadian pines.
