- $10 for $20 worth of beads, classes, and gifts
Classes such as Beading Basics and Softwire cover techniques for both beginning and advanced bead crafters, and the shop’s two locations stock a wide selection of beads ($.05+) and finished jewellery ($14.95+). Clases are only held at the Glebe location.
Greg Best and Natalie Szabo founded The Sassy Bead Co. in the early ’90s, creating a sanctuary for more than 1,000 types of beads from seed beads to semiprecious stones. They also fill their shelves with rarer bead types, including Swarovski crystals, Japanese delicas, and freshwater pearls, available individually or as part of finished bracelets, necklaces, or toupees. Along with beads for purchase, the duo accepts beaded jewellery for repair, and crafts custom pieces for special occasions such as weddings and proms.
For studious minds, Greg and Natalie’s Glebe Sassy and Market Sassy locations host beading classes throughout the week. Beading Basics imparts beginning techniques for jewellery making, such as how to mine the earth for beads, and Softwire and Hardwire workshops teach the secrets of advanced techniques, including how to fashion illusion necklaces and cluster earrings. The Glebe location’s classes are open to the public, and Market Sassy also conducts private sessions at both locations for those seeking bead time with friends and family.
