Coasters Seafood Grill serves a menu of fresh fish and other savouries from a cozy, casual dining room overlooking the historic ByWard Market. The kitchen prepares freshly plucked sea fruits in a variety of ways, ranging from deep-fried to grilled. The menu classically interprets fish ‘n’ chips, which stars either Atlantic halibut ($14.95 for one piece, $16.95 for two) or cod ($12.95 for one piece, $14.95 for two), cooked into crispy resistance and served with house-made tartar sauce. Meanwhile, grilled shrimp and scallops arrive sporting rakish berets and the diner’s choice of sauces—garlic and herb, creamy dijon, spicy Creole, or Cajun butter ($21.95). Turf-bound appetites can sate themselves with a juicy 10-ounce New York strip streak ($22.95) smothered in peppercorns and splashed with a rich red-wine sauce.
Oenophiles can sample 12 well-groomed, unfailingly polite wines by the glass ($7.95–$9) or light out for new territory by quaffing one of the bar’s glass-bowl martinis ($11), such as the Coasters cosmo, a fruity mix of raspberry and vanilla vodka, triple sec, and cranberry juice. The environment evokes hearthside warmth with sofas cuddled up to fireplaces and walls adorned with black-and-white photographs of the Rideau Canal locks and white-on-white photographs of blank sheets of paper. Large windows afford views of bustling ByWard Market below.
