Mambo Restaurante Nuevo Latino’s chefs set meats and vegetables aflame in clouds of spices to create adventurous Central and South American dishes. After warming up jaw muscles with soups and a house salad doused in balsamic-honey dressing, dining duos can invite each others’ palates to waltz in 3/5 time to a quartet of carnivore- and vegetarian-friendly tapas. Three seared scallops drift in honey and avocado mash; verano flatbread holds up jalapenos, goat cheese, and strawberries. Dig through layers of naan bread and spiced sausage marinated in red wine in chorizo tostadas, or chip away at the corn-, bean-, and cheese-draped facade of siesta nachos. Sips from house cocktails such as the caipirinha and mojito cubano, both infused with sugar and chilling lime, keep tongues cooler than victory in an ice-sculpture-eating contest. At lunch, combination plates come flanked by mixed greens or sweet-potato fries. Choose from bread-bordered creations such as pulled-pork and asiago-cheese burritos, smoked salmon wrapped in a sun-dried-tomato tortilla, and beef, chicken, or vegetarian quesadillas.
Diners commune between exposed brick walls and surrounded by a bold palette of Brazilian colours, highlighted by red wrought-iron lamps. Glasses clink and forks entwine in a private room, which accommodates parties, or at a bar lit from behind with warm amber lights. In warmer weather, an 80-seat rooftop patio grants near-aerial views of Parliament buildings and comfortable seating for two giraffes on a date.
