Charles Potter opened Modern Dry Cleaners in 1948, when he first helped customers tidy up clothes using the most modern methods available. His son Ron now helms the shop’s back room, where he puts his degree from the International Fabricare Institute and certification as an environmental dry cleaner to good use on clients’ most delicate fabrics. The store’s technicians are also experts at preserving wedding dresses and other specialty garments, which they groom according to their care labels and responses to a standard Rorschach test.
