In addition to training students in the art of self-defence, instructors in mixed-martial-arts sessions guide students through important functional movements designed to bolster strength. In yoga classes, teachers help students increase flexibility and range of motion. See the schedule for class times and descriptions.
Aidian Thomas and Kathleen De Jesus-Gauthier—Victory Performance Centre’s head strength-conditioning coach and athletic therapist, respectively—combine the best aspects of their individual sciences into one integrated four-point program in which martial arts, yoga, and nutrition all serve as tools to achieving a healthier lifestyle. For each of client in their signature training program, they begin with a functional-movement assessment, which analyzes a person’s posture, balance, gait, and other common movement patterns to reveal which areas of the body need strengthening and stretching. As a follow-up, they perform a bio-signature modulation, a noninvasive means of detecting the body’s composition of fat. After garnering information, training proceeds on two fronts: athletic therapy and strength conditioning, both of which can be performed on a one-on-one basis in personal-training sessions or in a group class.
In addition to yoga classes, they teach martial-arts styles from around the world, including Russian boxing, muay thai, and Brazilian ju-jitsu. They also train kids aged 4–12 in the martial arts, emphasizing lessons concerning discipline and nonviolent problem solving. Students can reinforce the healthy eating habits they learn in the onsite Victory Caffe, which serves eats free of fats, artificial colours, high-fructose corn syrup, and molten lava.
