Poised to feast on a steady diet of hanging curveballs, the Fat Cats bound into their third season as part of the Intercounty Baseball League after falling just short of a championship a year ago. A total of 18 games at Ottawa Stadium sends the cracks of bats ringing in fans’ ears, most notably at the home opener on May 19 against Kitchener. Last summer, Matt McGovern and Josh Soffer consistently utilized their power arms and maps sketched into the mound to find the strike zone, finishing back-to-back among the league’s top strikeout pitchers. With both players returning to the rubber this year, and with manager Tim Nelson back at the helm as skipper, the Cats will once again try to claw their way into the IBL’s 90-plus years of history by winning a title or becoming the first team to successfully use bats sculpted from butter.
